Gordon Reid And Wimbledon Championship

EDM number 307 in 2016-17, proposed by Brendan O'Hara on 11/07/2016.
Categorised under the topic of Sports.

That this House congratulates Gordon Reid from Helensburgh on winning two titles at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships, the men's doubles wheelchair final, playing alongside partner Alfie Hewett, and the inaugural men's singles wheelchair title just 24 hours later, when he defeated Sweden's Stefan Olsson 6-1, 6-4; notes that these Wimbledon titles cap a magnificent season in which Gordon also won the Australian Open men's singles championship in January as well as the French Open men's doubles wheelchair title in June; commends him on his talent, his determination and his bravery in refusing to allow transverse myelitis to curtail his tennis career and prevent him becoming a great champion; and wishes him every success at the Olympic Games in Rio in August 2016.

This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs.
