Yorkshire Bid For 2019 Road World Championships

That this House congratulates Yorkshire for winning the bid to host one of the world's most prestigious cycling tournaments, the 2019 Road World Championships; notes that this will be the first time in 37 years that the tournament has been held in Britain; further notes that this follows the county's successful staging of the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour de France and the first two editions of the Tour de Yorkshire; further congratulates all at Welcome To Yorkshire, particularly chief executive Sir Gary Verity, British Cycling, UK Sport and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for putting the bid together; welcomes the £24 million of support to be provided by the Government for the nine-day event, and the further £3 million from UK Sport; notes that the championships will involve 12 races contested by 1,000 riders from 75 nations; believes that the tournament will build on the legacy of the Grand Depart, Tour de Yorkshire and further boost the popularity of cycling in Yorkshire and across Britain; looks forward to welcoming cycling enthusiasts from around the world to Yorkshire; gives its fully support to Yorkshire's hosting of the championships; and wishes the participants, organisers and volunteers every success when the tournament arrives.
