European Capital Of Culture

EDM number 681 in 2016-17, proposed by Chris Law on 16/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Cultural heritage and Europe.

That this House raises serious concern that the Government is considering abandoning its obligation to host the 2023 European Capital of Culture, to be launched in December 2016, because the event will take place four years after the planned date for the UK leaving the EU; notes that Dundee has already spent years and hundreds of thousands of pounds preparing bids for the title, which brings funding from Brussels, as well as being a major boost for tourism and cultural, social and economic development; and further notes that if the Government decides to withdraw from this competition it will be a huge loss for Dundee and other nominated cities.

This motion has been signed by a total of 42 MPs.
