End High Cost Credit Alliance

EDM number 1116 in 2017-19, proposed by Liz Saville Roberts on 26/03/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Benefits policy, Financial services, Incomes and poverty and Loans.

That this House congratulates Michael Sheen on the creation of the End High Cost Credit Alliance; commends the pragmatic approach and philanthropic nature of this endeavor; fully supports the campaign in its aim to analyse the flaws of universal credit and of the current Government's welfare reform programme with a focus on ways to reduce household debt levels; highlights the important issue of spiraling household debt in the UK; further supports the goal to raise awareness about non-for-profit loan organisations, like Moneyline, Scotcash or Street UK; and condemns the current situation in which three million UK households are paying more than 25 per cent of their income to creditors, which represents 10 million people, or more than 10 per cent of households by pushing an unrelenting agenda of austerity.
