Non-Disclosure Agreements And Criminal Offences

EDM number 721 in 2017-19, proposed by Norman Lamb on 20/12/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Crime and Sexual offences.

That this House commends the bravery of Zelda Perkins, who has describe during an interview with BBC Newsnight how she was prevented from exposing an attempted rape of a colleague by her former employer, Harvey Weinstein, after signing a non-disclosure agreement on the advice of her lawyers; recognises that victims must be able to speak out about criminal offences; and calls for the Criminal Justice Act 1967 to be amended to make it a specific offence for the perpetrator of a crime, or those acting on his or her behalf, to offer money in return for non-disclosure, in order to prevent the use of non-disclosure agreements to cover up crimes such as sexual assault.
