Police Station Closures In Coventry

EDM number 971 in 2017-19, proposed by Jim Cunningham on 23/02/2018.
Categorised under the topic of Police.

That this House is deeply concerned about the proposal to close Willenhall, Canley and Foleshill police stations; notes that this will diminish the police presence in Coventry, and will therefore diminish the deterrent against crime; further notes that this is part of a wider plan across the West Midlands that would see 24 police properties released; believes that these closures are having to be made as a result of Government budget cuts; notes that since 2010 there has been a reduction in the total workforce of 2,000 and a reduction of £145 million in the West Midlands Police Force budget; and calls on the Government to support police officers and staff by providing adequate funding that would allow police stations to stay open and front line police staff numbers to return to pre-2010 figures in order to provide an effective deterrent to crime and to keep citizens of the West Midlands safe.
