ALZHEIMER'S PATIENTS

EDM number 726 in 1991-92, proposed by Archy Kirkwood on 20/02/1992.

That this House calls upon the Government to recognise the need for additional resources to be devoted to the specialist care of the increasing number of Alzheimer's patients and their families, especially in the provision of more day care hospitals and respite care; and urges that in these cases, when such patients are to be discharged to non-specialist private nursing homes from long-stay institutions, they retain their right to receive all benefits previously accorded to them and are not treated, as in some cases recently, as receiving contracted-out hospital care and not entitled to income support.
