Gulf Personnel & The Poll Tax

EDM number 397 in 1990-91, proposed by David Blunkett on 01/02/1991.

That this House notes with concern the present arrangements regarding the treatment of Gulf personnel and liability for the personal and standard poll tax; believes that these arrangements will lead to anomalies, financial hardship for those serving on our behalf and increased poll tax bills in those local authority areas providing exemption; and calls upon the Government to accept their financial responsibility and bring forward, as a matter of urgency, the regulations necessary to exempt all military and civilian personnel stationed in the Gulf while they are engaged in the war effort and its aftermath.
