Prescription Charges (No.2)

That this House is appalled that the Government is considering the abolition of free prescription charges for pensioners and pregnant women; believes that such proposals, which are Treasury-led, will force the vulnerable members of the community to pay for this Government's economic incompetence; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to immediately make a statement indicating that these proposals will be rejected as they fundamentally undermine the principle of a free NHS available on the basis of need and not ability to pay and breaks the pledge given to the electorate by this Government.
