Banning The Export Of Anti-Personnel Mines

That this House notes that at least one million people, many of them children, have been killed or severely injured by anti-personnel land mines in the past 20 years and that more than 100 million landmines are strewn across the world today; recognises that they are a cause of immense suffering long after wars have finished; welcomes the campaign launched by CAFOD highlighting the humanitarian, human rights and development issues which are posed by the manufacture and export of anti-personnel mines; welcomes the decision of Her Majesty's Government to sign the Inhumane Weapons Convention and its Landmines Protocol; and calls on it to impose an immediate moratorium on the export of all anti-personnel mines and to use its best endeavours to persuade other governments to follow suit.
