Operation Justice
EDM number 86 in 1996-97, proposed by Harry Cohen on 29/10/1996.
That this House welcomes the launch of the campaign, Operation Justice, sponsored by organisations such as the National Assembly Against Racism, Inquest, Liberty, the 1990 Trust and the Newham Monitoring Project; notes that the purpose of the campaign is to draw attention to the growing incidence of deaths and injury of black and minority ethnic people in police custody, to initiate a public inquiry into the entire issue of the relations between the police and black and minority ethnic people which are potentially seriously soured by such deaths and injustices and for it to inquire into the effectiveness of the current investigative and legal procedures which follow; and therefore expresses support for Operation Justice, particularly in respect of its call for such a public inquiry.
