Sudan

EDM number 1326 in 1997-98, proposed by Oona King on 14/05/1998.

That this House notes the current humanitarian crisis in Sudan, especially in the region of Bahr El Ghazal; further notes that due to a previous flight suspension imposed by the Khartoum government Operation Lifeline Sudan, a consortiu m of over 30 international non-governmental organisations, had been unable to deliver aid; further notes that UNICEF has stated that the needs of children for supplementary food and resources to pay for flights to deliver aid are now particularly urgent; welcomes the improved access now granted to Operation Lifeline Sudan by both sides of the conflict in Sudan; and calls on the United Kingdom government to mobilise resources from donor governments to ensure that aid can be delivered now to avert a famine in the near future.

This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs.
