Council Tax And Second Homes

EDM number 1666 in 1997-98, proposed by Adrian Sanders on 20/10/1998.

That this House notes the adverse effect disproportinate numbers of second homes can have on a local community from reduced public services to threatened local businesses; further notes that council tax concessions on second homes reduce the ability of local government to protect services and businesses in such communities; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to grant local councils the freedom to end council tax concessions on second homes and to guarantee that any increased revenues will remain in the communities from which they were raised.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
