Zaire

EDM number 36 in 1997-98, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 20/05/1997.

That this House welcomes the fall of the Mobutu regime in Zaire and considers its record of corruption, violence and abuse of human rights to be an appalling indictment of those who sold arms, promoted the coup and put it in power or propped the regime up in any way; recognises the terriblelegacy that the Government of Laurent Kabila has inherited; and hopes the people of Zaire will see peace, democracy and a respect for human rights.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
