British Cargo Airline Industry

EDM number 229 in 1998-99, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 21/01/1999.

That this House congratulates the British all-cargo airline industry on its success since the liberalisation of the European air cargo market in 1997; welcomes the subsequent growth in the industry to become the largest in Europe employing more than 2,000 people and earning ú130 million per annum in foreign currency; notes that talks between the UK and US Government on a new air service agreement are shortly to reconvene; and urges the Government to press the US authorities to grant the same access to the US domestic market for British airlines as that sought by the US from the UK for its airlines into the single European domestic market and so ensure that fair competition exists for all.

This motion has been signed by a total of 33 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
