Arrest Of Murat Bozlak

EDM number 54 in 1998-99, proposed by John Austin on 26/11/1998.

That this House expresses its utmost concern at the recent arrest and imprisonment of Murat Bozlak, the leader of the People's Democracy Party (HADEP) in Turkey; notes that Mr Bozlak has pursued only constitutional means in support of the Kurdish people and a negotiated settlement to the Kurdish question; notes that previous democratic and constitutional parties representing the Kurdish people, HEP and DEP, have been banned under the Turkish constitution and that members of DEP who were democratically elected to the Turkish Parliament have been imprisoned and tortured; and calls for the immediate release of Murat Bozlak, Leyla Zana and all other political prisoners.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
