De-Regulated Opening Hours For Restaurants

EDM number 872 in 1998-99, proposed by John Grogan on 22/07/1999.

That this House calls for the early implementation of the recommendations of the Better Regulation Task Force on Extended Hours Orders for restaurants which would mean that, as now, restaurants would be able to serve alcohol with meals between midnight and one a.m. but without the current requirement to provide live music or entertainment; and notes that this deregulatory reform would relieve a costly and impractical burden on the restaurant industry, which is primarily made up of small businesses and provides a significant contribution towards the nation's nighttime economy.
