Ministerial Replies On Depleted Uranium-Tipped Ammunition

EDM number 991 in 1998-99, proposed by Lynne Jones on 04/11/1999.

That this House notes that the honourable Member for Birmingham, Selly Oak, wrote to the then Minister of State for Defence, the honourable Member for Newcastle-upon-Tyne North, on 16th July, asking for an explanation for the removal of a paragraph, referring to the presence of uranium from depleted uranium-tipped weaponry in the soil where it strikes, which appeared in an inadvertently enclosed draft, but not the final version, of his letter of 9th July; is appalled that, almost four months later, despite two written reminders and numerous telephone calls, she has yet to receive a response; and calls on the current Minister of State with responsibility for this policy area, the honourable Member for Warley, to provide a full explanation for the deletion of the original paragraph.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
