Investment In Road Safety Education

EDM number 1045 in 1999-00, proposed by Alice Mahon on 26/07/2000.

That this House congratulates Brake, the road safety organisation, on its success in raising the profile of road safety by encouraging 6,000 schools and companies to run road safety initiatives in Road Safety Week 2000; welcomes the Government's 'THINK!' campaign, which aims to co-ordinate road safety initiatives by various organisations but believes that more can be done in the field of road safety education, enforcement and engineering to save the 70 lives lost each week on United Kingdom roads; and urges the Government to invest more money in such measures in order to meet its challenging casualty reduction targets of 40 per cent. in the number of people killed or seriously injured and 50 per cent. in the number of children killed and seriously injured in road accidents as soon as possible.

This motion has been signed by a total of 66 MPs.
