Competition Commission Inquiry Into The Ice Cream Industry
EDM number 106 in 1999-00, proposed by Bob Russell on 29/11/1999.
That this House notes that the Competition Commission has submitted its report to the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry after a nine month long inquiry into the impulse ice cream industry; further notes that it is the fourth inquiry into the impulse ice cream industry in 20 years; recognises that Birds Eye Walls has a dominant role in the industry through production and distribution; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to make a swift and considered response to the Competition Commission report with a view to ending uncertainty in the ice cream industry and ending the restrictive trading policies of Walls, which are anti-competitive with the result that consumer and retailer choice is restricted.
