Animal Experiments At Porton Down

EDM number 1166 in 1999-00, proposed by Ian Cawsey on 21/11/2000.

That this House urges Her Majesty's Government to immediately ban unnecessary animal experiments at the Ministry of Defence's Chemical Warfare Establishment at Porton Down; is disgusted by the torture and slaughter of pigs subjected to mustard gas and Marmoset monkeys injected with sarin nerve gas; is appalled that these experiments will continue despite admissions by the research scientists involved that they have discovered little of value; congratulates the Sunday People for exposing this barbaric cruelty; and supports that newspaper's campaign to put a stop to it.
