Closure Of Barclays Bank Newick Branch

EDM number 447 in 1999-00, proposed by Norman Baker on 29/02/2000.

That this House deplores the decision of Barclays Bank to close its Newick branch, and to do so without any consultation; notes that this branch serves not only Newick village but many other communities nearby, including Chailey, and that closure will cause considerable inconvenience to many local people; regrets that Barclays has given only until 7th April for customers to make alternative arrangements; and calls on Barclays to postpone closure to a period of three months and use that time to reassess the economics of the branch and investigate the possibility of Newick Post Office taking over some of the bank's functions, in the event of closure proceeding.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
