Recognition Of Benny Lynch, Former Flyweight Champion Of The World

EDM number 451 in 1999-00, proposed by George Galloway on 29/02/2000.

That this House, noting the forthcoming film of the life of Benny Lynch, the Gorbals boy who rose to become the flyweight champion of the world at the age of 22, at Belle Vue, Manchester in 1933 and who died a tragic death just over 10 years later in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, expresses the hope that the renewed interest in the life of Benny Lynch will result in long overdue recognition of his greatness, both by Glasgow City Council and the British Boxing Board of Control, which until today has not awarded the Lonsdale belt due to Lynch for his world title victory.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
