UK'S INTERNATIONAL MAIL CENTRES

EDM number 583 in 1999-00, proposed by Gwyn Prosser on 30/03/2000.

That this House supports the efforts of the Post Office Union, CWU, to retain a continuing role for the UK's eight international mail centres known as Dover, London Mount Pleasant, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Birmingham Z, Reading and Belfast; deplores the decision of the Post Office Board to centralise all international mail operations to a single new centre in Langley; condemns the Board's failure to accept alternative proposals made by the workforce and the many representations made by honourable Members; and insists that the Post Office honours its promise to make no compulsory redundancies.

This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs.
