GARSTANG - WORLD'S FIRST FAIRTRADE TOWN

That this House congratulates Garstang Town Council, Garstang Oxfam Group, Garstang business and Garstang people on the designation of Garstang as the world's first fairtrade town; welcomes the initiative to promote fairtrade produce throughout the town; recognises that fairtrade has a particular resonance for people in a rural area where farmers and growers are having their prices driven down by the successive demands of big business; acknowledges that producer co-operatives have a role throughout the world; and commends this superb initiative to every community throughout the land.
