Southern Water Charging Policy

EDM number 779 in 1999-00, proposed by David Lepper on 24/05/2000.

That this House expresses its deep concern that Southern Water has received over ú100 million since 1989 by charging 595,000 customers in Sussex approximately ú18 per year for drainage of surface water even though a high proportion of their houses have soakaway systems and, therefore, do not use the service; welcomes the intervention of OFWAT which brought this to light; and calls upon Southern Water to take urgent steps to identify all of its customers who do not use this service and to make a full refund to them for all charges incorrectly and unfairly levied since 1989.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
