Internally Displaced Children

EDM number 198 in 2000-01, proposed by Jenny Tonge on 15/01/2001.

That this House is appalled that 13 million children across the world are displaced in their own country; notes that displaced children in Africa and Asia are on average displaced for six years; further notes that displaced children are particularly vulnerable to attack, sexual abuse, hunger, disease, deprivation and recruitment as child soldiers; recognises that governments must ensure that these children's rights are upheld under domestic and international law; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to guarantee that in its development assistance and diplomatic endeavours it works to ensure that displaced people are given protection and humanitarian aid.

This motion has been signed by a total of 60 MPs.
