Scientific Research Involving Animals

EDM number 246 in 2000-01, proposed by Ian Gibson on 24/01/2001.

That this House notes the huge contribution to human well-being of UK scientific research and development; notes also the use of animals in some of this research and the necessity to continue to ensure the highest standards of welfare of animals in such research; recognises the legitimacy of peaceful protest against the use of animals in scientific research but condemns the continuing campaign of violence, intimidation and harassment against scientific research staff and their families; and calls upon the Government to give the fullest support to the scientific research community in the face of continuing terrorist attacks on them.

This motion has been signed by a total of 58 MPs.
