Damage To Hearing

EDM number 482 in 2000-01, proposed by Brian Cotter on 22/03/2001.

That this House supports the RNID's Safer Sound campaign in its efforts to reduce damage to hearing posed by rock concerts, nightclubs and personal stereos through raising awareness of the risks without trying to deter people from enjoying these pastimes; notes with concern that around seven out of 10 18 to 25 year olds surveyed by RNID had experienced temporary loss of hearing and/or tinnitus which are warning signs of longer-term hearing problems; acknowledges the responsibility that should be taken by club and concert promoters and personal stereo manufacturers in informing consumers of the risks they face; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to launch a public education and awareness campaign to inform people about potential dangers and ways of protecting their hearing.

This motion has been signed by a total of 40 MPs.
