Ofsted Inspection Of Birmingham Local Education Authority

EDM number 1103 in 2001-02, proposed by Sion Simon on 10/04/2002.

That this House congratulates the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, and Birmingham's chief education officer, Professor Tim Brighouse, on achieving a transformation in education standards as established by the report of 9th April from the education standards watchdog Ofsted; recognises that local schools in 1993 were by admission of the authority in dire need of improvement; is hopeful that other local education authorities throughout the UK will benefit from the findings of this report which situates Birmingham as an exemplary education authority from which others can learn and progress; and believes that this will be a fitting tribute to the successful tenure of Professor Brighouse who, over the last decade, has worked with such dogged determination to provide opportunities for pupils to achieve superior results and, by extension, improve their employment prospects in Birmingham and beyond.

This motion has been signed by a total of 25 MPs.
