Second World Assembly On Ageing In Madrid

EDM number 1122 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Burstow on 15/04/2002.

That this House welcomes the adoption of the International Plan of Action on Ageing 2002 and the Political Declaration by UN member states following the Second World Assembly on Ageing in Madrid; notes that the world community recognises that we live in a world of ageing populations and rising life expectancy, and that states are obliged to review their policies on access to social services and healthcare to promote independence and the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highests attainable standard of physical and mental health, to enhance the recognition of the dignity of older persons, and to eliminate all forms of unfair discrimination, neglect, abuse and violence against older people; and calls upon the Government to publish detailed proposals on how it intends to implement the 117 recommendations in the International Action Plan.

This motion has been signed by a total of 42 MPs.
