Landmines

EDM number 1330 in 2001-02, proposed by Ann Clwyd on 16/05/2002.

That this House condemns the alleged offer for sale of anti-personnel landmines by the UK company Chemring Group, parent company of PW Defence Ltd within this country nearly three years after the permanent ban of these weapons; calls for a police investigation and prosecution of those suspected of committing any offence under the Landmines Act 1998; notes that PW Defence Ltd is a major supplier to the Ministry of Defence and calls upon the MoD to launch its own inquiry into its relations with this firm; calls upon the Government to uphold its obligations under the Ottawa Treaty and ensure the rigorous monitoring of UK arms manufacturers; and commends the investigation by the BBC and Landmine Action into the possible legal sale of these landmines.

This motion has been signed by a total of 94 MPs.
