Rugby In Birmingham

EDM number 1615 in 2001-02, proposed by Lynne Jones on 11/07/2002.

That this House, being aware of the important role that Moseley Rugby Club in Birmingham has played over 130 years in developing rugby in the city and its wider catchment area of nearly five million people; views with concern the threatened relocation of the club to Oxford if it is sold to Oxford United Football Club, especially as this would deprive the Birmingham community of a major programme of rugby coaching which last year involved over 3,500 primary and secondary students from 60 schools; and therefore, calls on the Government to urge the RFU to continue to support the development of rugby in the Birmingham area, specifically by refusing to sanction any proposed move of Moseley Rugby Club to Oxford.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
