Cannabis Reclassification And The Daily Mail
EDM number 1680 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Flynn on 22/07/2002.
That this House congratulates the Daily Mail for its editorial comments that 'A debate is urgently needed, one that will have to examine the arguments of those including many with experience of fighting drugs, who want cannabis decriminalised' (October 2000); welcomes its recognition that the use of cannabis is an everyday fact of life and that making it illegal has failed to discourage its use (8th February 2000); further welcomes its belief that the case for a fundamental review is persuasive when millions of otherwise decent citizens routinely break the law (2nd July 2001); and regrets the paper's recent descent into hysterical politically motivated reporting on the Home Secretary's courageous reform.
