20 Day Rule And Meat Imports

EDM number 1791 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Flynn on 22/10/2002.

That this House congratulates the Government on its decision to allocate ú1.5 million to provide additional checks at ports of entry to reduce the import of infected meat; notes that in spite of the heroic work of HM Customs and Excise, hugh quantities of illegal drugs and contraband tobacco and alcohol are imported; acknowledges that no system can guarantee to keep out all infected meat; believes that the 20 day rule on animal movement is the best safeguard to restrict the spread of future diseases; and calls on the farm unions to end their irresponsible criticism of the rule.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
