Energy Efficiency Week

EDM number 284 in 2001-02, proposed by John Barrett on 22/10/2001.

That this House notes that every year in the United Kingdom, ú5 billion of energy consumption is wasted and six tonnes additional carbon dioxide is emitted unnecessarily per household; that while only 7 per cent. of people in the UK are aware that wasted energy contributes to climate change, 86 per cent. of people are prepared to take action to cut energy consumption; that wall insulation, energy efficient fridges and light bulbs can cut energy waste and carbon dioxide emissions dramatically; welcomes Energy Efficiency Week from 22nd to 28th October as an opportunity to educate and inform people of the need for energy saving measures; congratulated the Energy Saving Trust on the initiative; and calls on the Government and all honourable and Right honourable Members to set an example by taking appropriate steps in recognition of Energy Efficiency Week.

This motion has been signed by a total of 57 MPs.
