Council Housing

That this House welcomes the commitment from the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions to introduce legislation to allow councils to borrow as 'an alternative to going to the private sector'; calls for this legislation to be introduced as soon as possible; reminds the Government of its previous commitment to stop 'daylight robbery' clawback on housing revenue accounts to bring all social funding up to a decent standard by 2010; and calls on the Government to ensure fair funding for council housing and an end to two decades of discrimination against this form of tenure.
