Mobile Telephone Roaming Charges

EDM number 384 in 2001-02, proposed by Richard Allan on 08/11/2001.

That this House condemns the high charges levied by UK mobile phone operators for calls made and received abroad; believes that this is an attempt to exploit a lack of consumer understanding of complex charging structures; recommends that operators set a single rate for a group of countries, with standard times for peak and off peak calls for all countries and that all customers receive accurate and accessible information to enable users to check their bills; and calls on the regulatory and competition authorities to take firm action against operators to ensure a better deal for UK consumers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 57 MPs.
