Gianfranco Zola
EDM number 685 in 2001-02, proposed by Tony Banks on 18/01/2002.
That this House congratulates the players and fans of Norwich and Chelsea for their conduct on and off the pitch in the recent FA Cup replay at Stamford Bridge; joins in the chorus of admiration of the fantastic goal scored by Gianfranco Zola and his dedication of the goal to Matthew Ashton; believes that Zola, who was voted footballer of the year in his first season at Chelsea remains a magnificant role model for all that is good and decent in the sport at a time when its image is somewhat tarnished; and calls upon the Prime Minister to find an appropriate way to mark Zola's wonderful contribution to football in both England and Italy.
