Gla Congestion Charging And The RSPCA

EDM number 784 in 2001-02, proposed by Tony Banks on 01/02/2002.

That this House notes the good work undertaken in London by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and that in 2000, they responded to 887 seperate incidents, consisting of 561 animal collection, and 197 successful convictions for cruelty; further notes that the first stage consultation on plans for congestion charging in London did not recommend any exemption for RSPCA operational vehicles and that this, based on previous years' figures, could lead to a potential cost of more than ú5,000 per year in congestion charges to the charity; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to urge Transport for London, The Mayor and Greater London Assembly Members, when considering the final congestion charging scheme, to offer a 100 per cent. exemption to RSPCA operational vehicles.

This motion has been signed by a total of 38 MPs.
