Chesterfield Football Supporters Society
EDM number 790 in 2001-02, proposed by Harry Barnes on 04/02/2002.
That this House congratulates Chesterfield Football Supporters Society who took a 75 per cent. control of their club when it was on the verge of ruin and have now emerged with a court order which has taken Chesterfield FC out of administration under the supporters new company CFC (2001) Ltd which has Football League approval; recommends that even more people in Derbyshire join CFSS and that local businesses rally to their support to enable the new company to meet its commitment to pay off debts of ú1.65 million over the next three years; commends the league tribunal last season for not severely handicapping the Chesterfield supporters when assessing the serious failures of the earlier administration of the club; notes that the Derbyshire Fraud Squad is continuing its investigations into matters which would have brought the club to its knees but for the determination of its supporters; believes that spectators' control of football clubs should be facilitated through enabling legislation, so that Chesterfield's pattern can spread; and hopes that the supporters of York City FC will be able to secure the future of their club by following similar avenues.
