Un Committee Recommendations On Measures To Eliminate Asbestos Risk

EDM number 903 in 2001-02, proposed by Michael Clapham on 27/02/2002.

That this House welcomes the report of the Interim Chemical Review Committee, a part of the United Nations Environment Programme; notes its recommendation that all forms of asbestos should be subject to international trade controls to eliminate the risk associated with the material; and calls on the United Kingdom Government to take the lead at the Monterey Conference on financing development and the Johannesburg World Summit on sustainable development to call for a world wide ban of asbestos and products containing it to be an integral part of the sustainable development agenda.
