Exchange Direct And Regulation Of Bureaux De Change

EDM number 908 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Truswell on 27/02/2002.

That this House believes the experience of individual customers of Exchange Direct, who have suffered substantial financial loss through the disappearance of a reputed total of over ú20 million, demonstrates the need for greater regulation of bureaux de change and protection for customers; notes that increased regulation would also be consistent with the Performance and Innovation Unit's June 2000 Report 'Recovering the Proceeds of Crime'; and calls on the Government urgently to review how bureaux de change should be incorporated in the financial regulatory structure.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
