TEACHERS' LONDON ALLOWANCE
EDM number 986 in 2001-02, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 12/03/2002.
That this House objects to the currently low London allowance which is paid to teachers who are invaluable workers in our community; acknowledges that a great many head teachers live in fear of resignations at the end of a term because of the problems staff face in acquiring affordable accommodation, and the resulting cost of supply teachers to replace them; and calls on the Government to uphold their invaluable status by paying them a London weighting comparable with other important key workers, such as the police, and relative to the enormous increase in property prices in London.
