Regulation Of The Travel Insurance Industry
EDM number 1027 in 2002-03, proposed by Norman Lamb on 08/04/2003.
That this House notes with concern that consumers who buy travel insurance from a travel agent or tour operator are not protected by statutory regulation; further notes that direct sellers of travel insurance currently subscribe to a voluntary code and will be subject to statutory regulation via the Financial Services Authority from January 2005; further notes that recent research by Which Magazine found that only one out of a sample of 28 travel agents sought to establish whether customers had any pre-existing medical conditions; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to adopt full FSA regulation of travel agents' sale of travel insurance.
