Alliance And Leicester

EDM number 103 in 2002-03, proposed by Keith Vaz on 14/11/2002.

That this House notes that the Alliance and Leicester Plc was established 150 years ago by Johan Henry Davis when he founded the Leicester Permanent Benefit Building Society; notes that from those origins and following mergers with the Alliance Building Society and Giro Bank Plc, the Company is now ranked 137th in the table of 1000 World Banks, has a ú4 billion market capitalisation, six million personal customers, ú40 billion of total assets, employs 9,000 people and is the seventh largest UK lender; welcomes the fact that it continues to provide excellent financial services for customers not just in the Leicestershire area but throughout the country as it has done for over a century and a half; and further notes that it has provided employment to people of Leicester for that period and wishes it and its staff enormous success for the future.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
