Customs And Excise In Wales
EDM number 1108 in 2002-03, proposed by Adam Price on 29/04/2003.
That this House notes with deep concern proposals by HM Customs and Excise to cut front-line anti smuggling staff in Wales by 40 per cent.; notes that these proposals will lead to front-line staff at Pembroke, Chester and Swansea being removed permanently, leaving 500 miles of Welsh coastline and the major ports of Swansea, Fishguard, Pembroke and Mostyn, as well as Swansea and Cardiff airports unprotected; further notes, that the Welsh coastline has been the target of large smuggling operations in the past; expresses concern that Wales will be seen as an easy target for those wishing to illegally import contraband such as drugs or illegal meat; and demands that these proposals are rethought so that points of entry in Wales are adequately covered by front-line anti smuggling staff.
This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
