Re-Instatement Of Greg Tucker And Changes To Employment Law
EDM number 1192 in 2002-03, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 12/05/2003.
That this House welcomes the Employment Tribunal ruling to order the reinstatement of union activist Greg Tucker to his position of driver at South West Trains; notes that Mr Tucker was previously downgraded in May 2001 for alleged operational offences and that this disciplinary act resulted in industrial action on South West Trains; further notes that the tribunal found that Mr Tucker was in fact disciplined because of his trade union activities; and, whilst welcoming the decision of South West Trains to accept the Tribunal's decision, believes that employment law needs to be changed to ensure that employers are obliged automatically to reinstate workers who are unlawfully dismissed.
