Iraq And The 1954 Hague Convention On Cultural Property
EDM number 1245 in 2002-03, proposed by Simon Thomas on 19/05/2003.
That this House notes the huge destruction wrought on Iraq's cultural heritage in the aftermath of war; urges the Government to do all it can to clamp down on trade in looted and stolen historic artefacts; notes that the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the event of armed conflict has yet to be ratified by the UK Government; believes it would be appropriate to ratify the convention before its 50th anniversary; and calls on the Government to allocate parliamentary time to call on all parties to assist in ratifying the convention.
