BOB HOPE'S 100TH BIRTHDAY

EDM number 1270 in 2002-03, proposed by Clive Efford on 20/05/2003.

That this House sends its best wishes to Bob Hope who reaches his 100th birthday on 29th May; recognises his contribution to the entertainment industry and for being one of the biggest film stars of his generation in recognition of which he was given an honorary knighthood in 1998; notes that he has never forgotten his birthplace in Eltham where he has made frequent visits; expresses its gratitude for his generosity in saving Eltham Little Theatre from closure in 1981 for which he was made Honorary President; further notes that the theatre was renamed the Bob Hope Theatre in his honour; notes that due to his continued support the Bob Hope Theatre has become a thriving community resource which provides a venue for productions by many local societies across south east London; and further recognises the significant contribution of the young people's theatrical group The New Stagers to whom Bob Hope's achievements are an inspiration.
